MU Holds 'International Day
Awarding the winners of MU "Mr. and
Ms. International Day 2002".
MU recently held 'MU International
Day 2002' at its Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, on Bangkok
Noi Campus. The annual event is held to celebrate the diverse
international community at MU and honor the numerous international
staff and students and their unique contribution to the activities
and spirit of MU. Hundreds of Thai and international members
of the MU community attended the event, which included an international
costume parade, speeches by MU executives, Thai traditional dances,
couple and team formation dancing by MU International College
students, dinner and drinks, party games, and prize drawings
throughout the evening. Music was provided by the College of
Music's Brass Ensemble Band, and there was also a special string
quartet performance by the College's foreign staff.
The highlight of the evening was
the Mr. and Ms. MU International Day 2002 Contest. Various male
and female international students and staff - chosen as finalists
for the variety and style of their cultural dress - each described
(some in great detail) their home country and their experiences
at MU, with some very exuberant and colorful comments providing
much amusement for the audience. In the end, the judges selected
Ms. Rumana Akhter Saifi, a Bangladeshi postgraduate student at
MU's Institute for Population and Social Research, and Mr. R.
Muhammad Kosim, an Indonesian postgraduate student at the Faculty
of Public Health, as Ms. and Mr. International Day 2002, respectively
(see photo). As the evening drew to a close, the abundant
smiles visible in the audience made clear that MU's international
spirit remains alive and well.
