On 11 January, 2001, MU hosted the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning - Thailand (ASAIHL-Thailand) 8th Inter-University Conference, entitled 'Lifelong Learning'. The event provided an opportunity for Thai academics and scholars from numerous universities to exchange ideas and experiences in issues related to the promotion of lifelong learning, such as professional development courses and online education. Various participants presented papers in an effort to select the Thailand country report to be presented at the upcoming international ASAIHL conference on 17-19 June, 2002, at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. A paper entitled 'Lifelong Learning and Education Transformation in Thailand', presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tipaporn Phimphisut of the Faculty of Political Science, Ramkhamhaeng University, was eventually selected as the country report. The event, featuring Prof. Wichit Srisa-An as guest lecturer, was well attended by interested academics and scholars from educational institutions around the country.
