H.R.H. Princess Chulabhorn
Receives International Research Award

H.R.H. Princess Chulabhorn, a health researcher in MU's Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, was recently presented an award from the US-based international Environmental Mutagen Society for her research into carcinogen and environmental toxicology. Princess Chulabhorn is the second researcher to receive an award from the Society's Alexander Hollaender Fund for prominent work in genetic toxicology. Among her recognized work is a research study of the health risks of traffic police in Bangkok, where high traffic volume exposes them to carcinogenic substances such as polyclyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Her initiative to set up the International Center for Environmental and Industrial Toxicology, founded in 1990 and later designated a UNEP Center of Excellence, was another factor in Princess Chulabhorn receiving the award. The Center has to date provided training courses and workshops on toxicology and safe chemical use to 3,880 participants from 35 countries.
